"Where the Santa Fe Trail Divides"
|
|
One of America's best kept secrets!La Junta is a growing city on the High Plains of scenic Southeast Colorado. Located strategically on the historic Santa Fe Trail, La Junta is a community (in the traditional sense of the word) of about 10,000 friendly people who are looking to build into the future. The county seat of Otero County, La Junta offers over 300 days of sunshine each year, a moderate climate, an affordable cost of living and open, positive attitudes, as well as extensive city park and school systems, including Otero Junior College. The Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center, located in town, services a wide area of Southeast Colorado. But La Junta accommodates the past as well as the present, with several historic attractions including the reconstructed Bent's Old Fort, the world-renowned Koshare Indian Dancers and Museum, the Otero Museum and the nearby Boggsville Historic Site. (The Western Legends Bat Masterson and Kit Carson both played roles in the early years of La Junta and the area.) To top it all off, several national chain outlets in town offer convenience and competitive shopping for our residents. In short, we believe you will find La Junta an enjoyable place to visit and the ideal community in which to live and raise a family. City of La Junta Website
